OOTD: Sailor Chic

So ever since I changed a new pair of permanent contact lens, I get red swollen eyes often and my eyes became super sensitive to light. The doctor said I might be allergic to the contact lens material and advised me against wearing any contact lens for 4 - 6 weeks! Horror! I didn't really like my glasses to begin with and with a small nose bridge means they slide down pretty often but what can I do when eyes are so important in my life? You'll be seeing some outfit posts in the near future being totally specky and nerdy!

I breezed into New Look one day and found 2 completely beautiful blouses that I am in love with. The first being this New Look Striped Chiffon Shirt. I am a little obsessed with chiffon since last year and relished the chance of getting my hands on anything sheer because it works so well for hot weather and is breezy and easy. I also managed to think up at least 3 looks from this shirt so I didn't need to reconsider how frequent I will be wearing this! I paired it up with my lovely embellished necklace from Forever21 (shown here and here) because I had this major brainwave to match pink and blue that day. I was kind of pleased with myself because this year, I am trying harder to experiment with more unusual colour combinations that I normally wouldn't think of and this being one of my first. I'm really liking them!

If you need a short review on the shirt, I am a UK size 20 - 22 and size 18 fits me just fine with some room to spare and is even more beautiful in person than the website. I immediately thought of "Sailor Chic" when I saw it and would completely wear this with my beloved skinny jeans or with shorts. It is completely versatile!

I will also be excited to show you my next new buy from New Look soon because it was one of the things that I grabbed, raced to the fitting room only just to make sure it fits (because they are all size 18) and then I knew I had to have it.

Striped Chiffon Shirt: New Look
White Slip: from another Dorothy Perkins blouse
Metallic Accordion Pleat Skirt: Forever21+
Blue Skinny Belt: Dorothy Perkins
Lace Flats: ASOS
Embellished Necklace: Forever21

Chiffon is such a fine fabric. If the garment is made to proportion, I think it can really compliment our plus size bodies. I'm excited to see other looks (now, still in your head) you can come up with this blouse. I'm a fan of garments that can go from day to night and different styles.

well, hey there, sailor(ette?)! love your outfit. that necklace especially. too bad about the contacts. :( I have been wanting to wear contacts as well (all those pretty colors!!!) but because I read too much, it's senseless for me to do so. BUMMER. But hey, glasses are chic! and I can't wait to see your bespectacled looks! :)

ohh i adore this top and skirt. such a great outfit! i also used to hate when i had to wear my glasses over my contact lens just for the sheer fact that I could see better with my contacts in than my glasses. but i've since had the lasik eye surgery, and i love not wearing either!

I love that necklace! And glasses can totally look hot and amazing - you just need to find the right ones! I really recommend eyebuydirect.com, I've gotten most of my glasses from them, and the glasses cost around $15-30 USD. I think they ship anywhere too! (shipping info: http://www.eyebuydirect.com/shipping-x-4.html)

Such an adorable outfit. I really love it. Also I concur with Rebecca you can totally rock glasses these days. I'm with you on the button nose stakes but I've found going with resin frames which can be melted and molded to the correct shape to be a winner.

Yikes about the contact lenses! I wear glasses all the time and they can be really frustrating but, perhaps it sounds irrational, but I'm scared of contact lenses. Plus I mean they're expensive and you have to change them and just bah.

Love the sparkly skirt, like how you called it speckly :) Necklace is super cute too!

I love the drapiness of the shirt, its very floaty and breezy. So pretty! And that sparkly pleated skirt is adorable. Nice combination! I'm going to experiment with color more often too; I have the tendency to try and match everything. Your look here is wonderful, and certainly very sailor chic!!

I love the outfit, as always! I wish we had a New Look here. I'd like to go in and see what I could find, just once even. Sorry to hear about your contact problems! As a person currently suffering an allergic reaction, I feel your pain! I suppose a month of wearing glasses isn't TOO bad...you'll be saving money by not buying contacts!

Love love love the stripes. I might have to put in an order at new look now. Would you suggest ordering down sizes for that top? One size smaller or two? P.s. I saw your old posts about trying to start getting rid of/selling clothes (yeah, i backtracked and read a tonne of your posts, lol). I'm in new york city and have the same problem with having amassed a hoarder status wardrobe. I come from bangladesh and similar to singapore and many other asian countries, clothing for plus size girls were limited or next to none so I just hold on to all the pieces I have bought over time because I'm scared of being that deprived of cute clothing again. Irrational, I know. Perhaps we can trade wardrobe cast-offs? Email each other pictures of things we'd be willing to ship to each other? Let me know and I'll email you deets.
